Put the Cat Amongst the Pigeon's Idiom Quote

A play on words I came up with, with regards to British politics and the Brexit referendum, because it seems like for example UKIP came forward with an immigration centered campaign at exactly the time they did to claim as much recognition from the British people in order to influence the vote in favour of their party.

Overall I believe the referendum vote may have not been fully democratic, insofar that there was over spending on some political campaigns and some kind of alleged interference from Cambridge Analytic, who soon disappeared from current affairs and news reports, what happened there?
